Help me to help you, Baja500

[Update, July 2025]

SCORE reached me out to let me know that things got cleared with Erendira and the family of those affected by the incident. According to SCORE officials, they did everything in their power to compensate and fix the mistake of the driver, who apparently didn’t fly away as previously mentioned by the local media stories. Also, SCORE has released an official statement where they mention that for the next races, pre-run days will have observers in strategic points to enforce and penalize those teams that don’t respect the rules.

SCORE, I really like you, you have been my friend for so many years. But lately, it feels like it’s harder and harder to defend this sport from those who don’t give a shit and even despise you, and by that I mean probably 70% of the people of Ensenada.

Please remember that at the end of the day, the locals are who allow racing the way it does. Keep pissing people off and soon they will kick us out.

I wonder if Eréndira will allow another race thru’ their town again.

We all know the risk we take during race day. But during pre-running days it’s a different story, Not a single local should worry about getting rammed by a 3800-pound racetoy of someone who thinks he can do whatever he wants down here and just fly away in his helicopter when shit gets real, just to pay a monetary fine later.

I’m sure any amount it was, felt like toilet paper budget for a guy who spends millions on this just for fun.

Please make sure this doesn’t happen again. It’s time to get real.

  • How about mandatory number and names on the pre-run vehicles to help with identification?

  • How about limiting the tire size of pre-runners? What’s the point of a 1000+ horsepower prerunner again?

  • Dakar-type GPS with real-time tracking, I hate to have to put this on the table as an option but since kids can’t behave.

Real fucking consequences for those who break the rules, lifetime ban from all off-road racing events.

We all know that part of the appeal to come down here is because of the prerun, I get it, it’s an amazing freedom feeling. But that freedom ends where the freedom of another person starts.

To the racers: We are so lucky to have hundred of miles of dirt-roads away from any-form of civilization where things can ‘get rowdy’ but near any town, please use some fucking common sense.

Sorry for the lack of variety, I wasn’t feeling extra motivated as you might understand.

Peace.

Ps. Congrats to the #1
